The story of a Google self-driving car almost cutting off a driverless Audi Q5 owned by Delphi, while the latter was trying to make a lane change on a San Antonio road, has a taken a different twist. You will recall we reported that someone in that self-driving car had revealed to Reuters that one of Google self-driving cars cut off Delphi car by moving into the same lane . And said the Delphi car ''took appropriate action'' by aborting the lane change.
However, Delphi Automotive PLC has come out to say that the two self-driving cars weren't even close to each other, let alone one denying the other right of way. They were about a width from each other.Rather, it says the Google car moved in the lane first, same lane the Delphi driverless car had wanted to enter, so the latter quickly pulled back on seeing the Google car--since there was no space for the Delphi's car .
Google, too, released a statement later on Friday in which it said the "two self-driving cars did what they were supposed to do in an ordinary everyday driving scenario."
So I think, to some extent, we shouldn't blame for telling a different story. Here's the full gist about Google self-driving Lexus car almost crashing into Delphi self-driving Audi Q5 in California just in case you weren't around when we reported it.
