Why Elon Musk should STOP talking about ''Tesla auto-pilot/self-driving cars''

The man who runs Tesla and Space X has been playing with us autophiles for years now. Musk had come out to say many a time that his company, Tesla is developing an autonomous car. Yet, in reality, no ONE has set their eyes on a self-driving Model  S or even seen one ''hawking'' those words on the side of the vehicle. But he always got away with it. However this has to stop. With all due respect sir, Say something and mean it, rather than  blow hot and cold.

In 2013, Elon Musk said in an interview with Bloomberg news that Tesla was considering adding driver technologies to its vehicles, that would allow the driver to take his hands off the wheel and feet off the gas. In other words, it won't require the services of a human driver while in mobile. Musk said Tesla and Google were in talks about its Lidar tracking system. However we never heard from Musk again about the outcome of their discussion with Google to this day..

In 2014, Musks again revealed in a CNNMoney interview that by 2015, this year, 90 percent of his company's Mcar will be capable of autopilot(He likes the word autopilot more than self-driving) or self-driving. We are in the second quarter of 2015 and still haven't seen a Tesla self-driving car, or auto-pilot car so to speak. Here's an excerpt from that interview.

"Autonomous cars will definitely be a reality. A Tesla car next year will probably be 90 percent capable of autopilot. Like, so 90 percent of your miles can be on auto. For sure highway travel. How's that going to happen? With a combination of various sensors. You combine cameras with image recognition with radar and long-range ultrasonics, that'll do it. Other car companies will follow. But you guys are going to be the leader? Of course. I mean, Tesla's a Silicon Valley company. If we're not the leader, shame on us.''

Is there a Tesla car that self-drive 90 percent of the time in 2015? I would be shocked if there was.

Early this year, that's in March, Elon Musk was bold enough  to say that  Tesla self-driving cars will be in the US  this summer. He said the technology would allow drivers to have their cars take control on what he called “major roads” like highways. Mr. Musk said that a software update — not a repair performed by a mechanic — would give Tesla’s Model S sedans the ability to start driving themselves, at least part of the time, in a hands-free mode that the company refers to as autopilot.

Elon Musk should admit it. Tesla has no plans to manufacture fully autonomous car.
