Virtual reality is not just about gaming!
Earlier this week, news surfaced that former smartphone powerhouse Nokia would unveil its own virtual reality hardware on July 28 at an event in Los Angeles The Finnish firm was coy about details of its VR product apart from the 'Nowhere/Now here' on the invite it sent out to journalists.
However, on Tuesday the company finally took the wraps off its VR product: A soccerball-shaped VR camera known as OZO that promises to let filmmakers capture stereoscopic 3D video and audio with its eight cameras and eight microphones built-in, and be able to play those content real-time in 3D instead of stitching panoramic images together to create a 3D VR content as other products do.
Filmmakers who use Nokia OZO for their content can view them by wearing virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Rift, or even with Samsung Gear VR.And will fit into existing professional workflows thanks to compatibility with existing third-party content-creation tools.
Nokia did not reveal pricing for its OZO VR camera. Although it said would reveal OZO full specifications and pricing later and that it will start shipping to interested buyers as from the fourth quarter of this year.
