GM partners with Korea LG for Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle

American automaker General Motors Co.(GM) and South Korean second largest tech company LG Electronic Corp have teamed up on the production of the long-range 2017 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle. The  partnership between the American and Korean companies will see  LG Corp make 11 key vehicle components and systems for the Chevy Bolt through one of its subsidiaries LG Chem. The 2017 Bolt will go into production in late 2016 at GM Oregon factory.


The 11 key components and systems LG will supply to GM are: Lithium-ion Battery Cells and Battery Pack,Battery Heater, Electric Drive Motor (to be built from a GM design) Power Inverter Module (DC-to-AC conversion), On-board Charger,Electric Compressor for Climate-Control System, High-Power Distribution Module, Accessory Low-Power Module Power Line Communication Module (for communication with DC quick-charging station),  Instrument Cluster and Infotainment System .

The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt electric hatchback car will reach 200 miles on a single charge and will cost around $30,000. It will compete with Tesla's upcoming Model 3 EV, which is expected to carry the same price tag as the Chevrolet Bolt.

General Motors says it would market the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt hatchback EV as a Crossover SUV since it has enough room for passengers and serves the same purpose as Sport Utility vehicles(SUVs).
