The owner of a Tesla model S , Juris Shibayama an MD of a company in Tennessee, said his car had a collision with a Rusty three-pronged trailer hitch on Thursday. As a result of the collision with the trailer, a piece of metal got stuck below his car which caused it to caught fire. But the man said something that shocked us all ''I would buy another in a heartbeat.''
Sharing his experience, which was posted on Tesla website, he said and I quote '' about 30 to 45 seconds later there was warning on the dashboard display '' car need service, car may not restart''. But he continued to drive, hoping to get home in time and then another warning struck a minute later '' please pull over safely. The car is shutting down.'' He was able to get his belongings out of the car, by safely pulling the car over. About 5 to 10 seconds, smoke started coming out from the car underbody. Then two minutes later, the car caught fire.
All this time, he took about 5 minutes during the impact and until the car caught fire, he was able to get all his belongings all thanks to God and... the Tesla car. His car warned him several times before the accident occurred. That would have caused him a serious injury if he had not been in a Tesla car.
''I am thankful to God that I was totally uninjured in any way from this impact. Had I not been in a Tesla, that object could have punched through the floor and caused me serious harm. From the time of impact of the object until the time the car caught fire was about five minutes. During this time, the car warned me that it was damaged and instructed me to pull over. I never felt as though I was in any imminent danger. While driving after I hit the object until I pulled over, the car performed perfectly, and it was a totally controlled situation. There was never a point at which I was anywhere even close to any flames.''He said.
The firemen arrived promptly and applied water to the flames. They were about to pry open the doors, so he pressed his key button and the handles presented and everything worked even though the front of the car was on fire. No flames ever reached the cabin, and nothing inside was damaged. He was even able to get his papers and pens out of the glove compartment.
