The company that built that small high-definition camera you straps onto your helmet or car has just jumped on the virtual reality bandwagon. GoPro is reportedly developing a six-camera spherical array that would turn your photos and video into virtual reality. GoPro made this known through its chief executive officer Nick woodman at the Code Tech conference on Wednesday.
The six-camera spherical array, as the name suggests, consist of six Hero4 camaras that captures stunning images and video for virtual reality. Those captured photos and videos, which are six in number, will be put together to form a unified six-K spherical content using Kolor's software, a software company GoPro bought last year.
Users will then use virtual reality headsets like Google cardboard, Oculus VR or Microsoft's Hololens to see the content. You can also see the effect through Kolor's app or YouTube 360 from your PC or smartphone.
GoPro six-camera spherical array will be available in the second half of this year, but the company did not release details about pricing for the six-camera spherical array.
