Google Cardboard virtual reality for the iPhone 6 Plus!
Last year, when Google revealed its first foray into virtual reality in the form of a piece of cardboard anyone can straps to their face and port to another world, we laughed at the search giant's idea. We thought Google was joking. But a year on Google is having the last laugh. The thing we all called silly is being used by 1 million Android phone owners, allowing them to experience virtual reality for a mealy $25.Google has decided to build on the success of the original Cardboard VR headset and extends the system to another platform, iOS.
At its ongoing Google I/O conference It revealed a new model of its DIY CardBoard VR headset or Cardboard 2.0 that can accommodate smartphones with screens up to 6-inches and now works well with devices running iOS, thanks to a little tweak. It now comes with a cardboard button to control characters on the screen. The new Google Cardboard and the original model are much of a muchness---the experience is still the same.
You can download Google Cardboard virtual reality apps for iPhone and Android and visit places of interest such as a museum collection in 3D, float in a river, play pong in space or even take a walk round city streets right where you are.
Google CardBoard is a Do-it-yourself(DIY) kit with lenses that anyone can build, fit in their smarphones to experience virtual reality, such as visiting new places, play games etc as if they were there without being there.
Wholesome! Now I don't have to shell out hundreds of dollars for a VR headset just to experience virtual reality. Pick up Cardboard, fold it and slide in your Android or iPhone smartphone and you are good to go. What's take on this? Let me know in the comments.
