Google Inc, Audi, Daimler,Nissan etc. are all trialling self-driving cars in various cities around the world. A majority of them have set 2020 as the year autonomous cars will become commercially available to us. However South Korea biggest automaker Hyundai has said we should expect to see its fully driverless cars, equipped with highway driving assist system and other technologies, on our roads by 2030. It said that its robotic vehicles will be improve safety, and customers will enjoy all the comfort and convenience a car of the future brings.
The South-Korea-based automaker is approaching the production of completely autonomous cars differently, unlike the others that eye fully driverless vehicles. For instance, it will start producing partially automated driving this year, highly piloted driving in five years time and completely automated driving in 2030.
The HDA system in Hyundai's vehicles, very somewhat similar to adaptive cruise control, will let the car stay in the lane, maintains a constant distance from the car in front and also help the driver overcome obstacles that could happen while on the road. The feature will be embedded in the new Equus.
Hyundia also made known its plans to invest heavily in this field, to the tune of $1.8 billion by 2018. It also plans to hire more people to fast-rack the project and develop self-driving cars.
