Facebook fights for real-time news update, as it introduces embedded posts

In an attempt to boost its connection to current events and breaking
news, Facebook is making the social network's public content more
accessible to news outlets with the Wednesday release of embedded
posts. The new feature is intended to let media organizations, and
eventually everyone else, embed public Facebook updates such as
photos, videos, hashtags, and other posts from people or
Pages on their own Web sites. Viewers of the embedded content can
"like" or share stories, as well as like the Page or follow the person
who originally authored the content. At launch, just a small group of
media outlets including CNN, Huffington Post, and People magazine will
be able to embed Facebook updates in their stories. A company
spokesperson said the feature would roll out more broadly to users
"soon." "Today, we are beginning to roll out Embedded Posts to make it
possible for people to bring the most compelling, timely public posts
from Facebook to the rest of the Web," Facebook software engineer Dave
Capra said in a
statement. "Every day, public figures, journalists, and millions of
regular people share their thoughts on what's happening around the
world on Facebook publicly." Where available, an "Embed Post" option
will show up in the drop-down menu for public updates and, on click,
generate a snippet of code that can be pasted on Web sites and blogs.
The embedded post release comes on the heels of hashtags, which the
social network added in June to create a link to current affairs, and
supplements Instagram's new Web embed feature. The embedded posts
feature is ultimately meant to make Facebook a relevant part of pop
culture and news stories, an area where Twitter has long reigned
supreme.

Two US security experts used laptop to control two car models from the actual driver

If you are a car owner out there, this piece of information is
important. Do not conclude that it is common knowledge or not consider
it possible because one has to physically connect the required tools
in order to hijack a car.
Two US security experts used a laptop to take over a car from the
actual driver---a Toyota Prius and a 2013 Ford Escape. How they did
it? Well, it wasn't an easy task though . They had to connect their
laptop to the car electronic control units(ECUs), that computer
network that controls all functional units of a car, such as braking,
steering , horn and monitors displays.
By these, they wrote softwares which they used to instructions to the
car computer network, and were able to control the car remotely from
the actual driver.

Doubts on claims by a Turkish Hacker over Apple developer portal hack

On Monday, l reported that Apple's developer website was hacked. And
that a UK based Hacker, Ibrahim Balic claimed responsibility. The
Hacker showed proof that he had grab personal informations of 100000
registered developers. But according to a Guardian investigation,
Ibrahim Balic claims may be wrong.
How? in the first instance, Balic said he used cross-site scripts(XSS)
bug in the website and found 13 issues, which he reported all found
bugs to Apple between 16 and 20 July.
However XSS attacks generally require the attacker — which in this
case would be Balic — to "infect" a page, in this case Apple's, with a
malicious piece of Javascript or HTML which
would then be used to extract data from a visiting user. If Balic's
claim is correct, he seems to have used the XSS exploits against his
own system.

Balic offered to provide proof of his hack by sharing some details of
the file with the Guardian, and provided the emails for 19 people; the
Guardian also extracted another 10 from an email Balic put on YouTube
in which he apparently showed how he hacked the site. (He has since
made the video private.) But attempts by the Guardian two days ago to
contact 29 of the group whose details Balic claims to have acquired
found that seven of the emails bounced — because the email is no
longer operational — and not a single one of the others has responded
to a request to say whether they are registered with Apple. Nor could
any of the emails or names be discovered online — which would be
unusual for any active developer.

with Google's other recent software offerings, the new UI
includes a wealth of new contextual information, improved
prediction capabilities, and edge-to-edge content. We took a look at
the redesigned interface back in May, and the below video should give

Man sues Apple for internet porn addiction, for letting his wife and kids leave him

Some people are REALLY funny. What has Apple got to do with your sex life or family. Why many would lash back at me for these comments, but  before you jump into conclusions, think! Below is how Thesun is reporting it....

The Tennessee dad said the "F***book" site “appealed to his biological sensibilities as a male,” and he started to prefer the images on the screen to his own wife.

Apple to probe death of Chinese woman who used iPhone when it was charging

Apple Inc is investigating an accident in which a Chinese woman was
killed by an electric shock when answering a call on her iPhone 5
while it was charging, the U.S. technology company said on Monday.
Last Thursday, Ma Ailun, a 23-year-old woman from China's western
Xinjiang region and a flight attendant with China Southern Airlines,
was electrocuted when she took a call on the charging mobile
telephone, the official Xinhua news agency quoted police as saying on
Sunday. "We are deeply saddened to learn of this tragic incident and
offer our condolences to the Ma family.
We will fully investigate and cooperate with authorities in this
matter," Apple said in an e-mail. Apple declined to comment on
details, such as whether this was an isolated case. Ma's sister
tweeted on Sina's microblog saying that Ma collapsed and died after
using her charging iPhone 5 and urged users to be careful, a message
that went viral on the site. In April, Apple apologized to Chinese
consumers and altered iPhone warranty policies in its second-biggest
market after its after-sales service suffered more more than two weeks
of condemnation by the state- run media.

Survey: Nearly 20 Percent Of Young Adults Use Their Smartphones During Sex

Here's a definitive sign that Americans have taken multitasking way
too far: They're looking at their smartphones while doing it. Nearly
20 percent of young adult smartphone owners in the U.S. between the
ages of 18 and 34 use their smartphones during sex, and nearly 1 in
ten U.S. adults who own smartphones use them during sex. The survey
from Harris Interactive on behalf of startup Jumio did not ask
respondents what they are "using" the phones for. Perhaps there's
somethingmuch more kinky going on here.
Probably though it's just a lot of people surreptitiously glancing at
their iPhones to see if they got a text or a new
comment on their Facebook post. Smartphones are also impacting our
relationships in other ways: According to
the study, 33 percent of adults use them while on dinner dates, and 35
percent use them while at the movies. 12
percent of people reported that they feel that their smartphone gets
in the way of their relationship. At least we recognize it's an issue,
right? Harris Interactive conducted its online survey of more than
1,100 U.S. adults between June 13 and June 17, 2013, and the results
were a startlingly reminder of just how tethered to technology we've
become. Take a look at the other places people admit to using their
smartphones: Perhaps most unsettling: Despite the many safety hazards
of texting while driving, 55 percent of respondents said that they use
a smartphone while driving. Even though using a hand-held cellphone
while driving is illegal in 11 states, and texting while driving is
illegal in 41 states.

Google working on wearable computer for Dogs

Eric Schmidt, says things are getting better with Google and Apple

Although Apple and Google have watched their relationship deteriorate
over the last several years, the search giant's executive chairman,
Eric Schmidt, says things are getting better. Speaking to Reuters in
an interview published on Thursday, Schmidt said that Google's
relationship with Apple has improved over the past year, and the two
companies are now holding "lots and lots" of meetings related to "a
long list of issues." Schmidt, who was once an Apple board member,
found himself at the epicenter of a war that broke out between Apple
and Google over mobile operating systems. The late Apple co- founder
Steve Jobs had said that he was willing to go to "thermonuclear war"
with Google over the Android mobile operating system, which he
believed was designed to capitalize on Apple's own creation, iOS.
Since Jobs' death in October 2011, Apple hasn't publicly improved
relations with Google, and last year, decided to remove both YouTube
and Google Maps from iOS. The move was viewed as a not-so-subtle jab
at the search company. Whether Apple is having a change of heart at
this point, however, is unknown.

14-month-old girl uses dad smartphone to buy a car on eBay

The next time you let your toddler play with your
smartphone, you better keep a close eye on him. Take it from Oregon
dad Paul Stoute, who is now the proud owner of a beat up 1962 Austin
Healey Sprite after he left his phone unattended around his
14-month-old daughter, Sorella. According to local news reports, the
toddler grabbed her dad's unlocked phone last month, opened up the
eBay app, and started clicking around. She then managed to
bid on the vintage car, and actually won! Fortunately for her parents,
the toddler managed to snag the car for just $225. Stoute didn't
realize what happened until he opened up his email and saw a
congratulatory message from eBay informing him he.had won the auction.
Initially, he was in a state of shock. "Tap, tap, tap and now I own a
car," Stoute told Fox 12 Oregon. "Fortunately, she didn't buy the
$38,000 Porsche." Before the incident, Stoute had been looking for
cars on eBay, thinking he might take on a remodeling
project with a friend. The Austin Healey might have been just what he
was looking for. Listed in the eBay ad as a "Frankensprite," the car
has two engines —both of which are in the back seat. Stoute is
planning to fix up the car, and hopes to give it to Sorella as a
present for her 16th birthday
or high school graduation. Until then, the Stoute family is taking
more precautions with their smartphones. They've
password protected their devices, and uninstalled any apps that can be
used to make a purchase. "It cannot happen again," said Sorella's
mother.

Family and Social networking

The last few years have seen a huge increase in the use of social networking technologies, from Facebook and Twitter to blogs and wikis in the home. In fact, market research company, Nielsen carried out a study and found out that US-based internet users had spent an average of more than six hours on sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter during May 2010 alone.
This increasing trend has already hit West Africa, especially Nigeria. The Nielsen research also showed that 75% of all active internet households visited a social networking site at some point during the month of May and that around one-fifth of American adults public online or own a blog, and 55 percent have at least one or more social networking profiles.
At the same time, both organizations and government entities worldwide are also increasingly turning to social networking to facilitate
