As you know Microsoft will stop pushing updates in its Windows XP operating system on April 8. When it does it will put a large portion of computers at risk to hackers and virures.
It is widely believe that powers 95 percent of world's ATMs( or Automated Teller Machines). Banks ATMs still runs on Windows XP to avoid the cost of upgrading to a new operating system and fixing bugs out of the new version would take time. Some of these banks even went as far as developing their own software to match Only with the 13-year-old operating system, and it works perfectly for them.
Now with the situation on ground, most banks will likely miss the April 8 deadline. As such, they will have to pay to extend support, in order to continue to protect their machines against hackers and viruses, until they finished upgrading to a new system. Some are negotiating with Microsoft as we speak
For now I do not know how much it will cost Nigerian banks to pay Microsoft for extended support but, what I know is that the top five banks in the UK---, Barclays, Royal Bank of Scotland,LIoyd Banking Group amd Santander UK--would each pay $100 million
