The Ontario superior Court sided with BlackBerry to stop its Senior Vice President of Software, Sebastien Marineau-Mes from defecting to Apple, for now.
In short,Apple had offered Marineau-Mes the position of Vice President of Core, which he quickly accepted without thinking. He immediately sent BlackBerry a two months written notice of his resignation. However BlackBerry did not take it likely with him and filed a lawsuit on the grounds that he violated term of his contract. The contract states that Marineau-Mes has six months to provide notice should he decide to leave the company.
He signed the contract to take the role of VP Core OS at Apple last year, . Because of this, his role at BlackBerry was not announce widely within the company. He said the contract did not apply to him since ''he never assumed the duties of executive vice-president.''
In a nut shell, the court ordered Marineau-Mes to stay at BlackBerry until June 23, 2014.
BlackBerry said in a statement: ''It is unfortunate we had to take this step, but we will do whatever is necessary to ensure that employees honour the agreement they make with us.''
It seems some executives lack the power of perseverance, don't you think?
