Three Telecom Operators to sell mobile Tower networks in Africa

Three telecom operators---MTN Group Limited, Bharti Airtel and Orange SA---are aiming to sell their cell towers in Africa,over cost of using generators and other power means to run them on the continent.

According to sources familiar with the plan, MTN and Airtel are to sell their mobile tower networks for $1 billion and $2.5billion respectively. Airtel intends to sell 15,000 of its towers in 17 nations. While Orange is planing to sell its towers in Sub-Saharan Africa and Egypt for an undisclosed price.

American Tower firm IHS has shown interest to buy MTN and Airtel towers,one of the sources revealed.
