Oleg Pliss demanding money from hacked Apple's devices

A team of Australian hackers  managed break into Apple's ''Find My phone feature''  that allows them access to a host of Apple devices.  The hackers, known as Oleg Pliss, sent messages threatening to use the Apple's security feature to wipe out their data and to regain their devices if they don't pay $100 into their PayPal account.
iDevices owners took to Apple's Support Fora to make complaints of the hack. One user wrote ''

i was using my ipad a short while ago when suddenly it locked itself, and was asking which I'd never previously set up. I went to check my phone and there was a message on the screen (it's still there) saying that my device(s) had been hacked by 'Oleg Pliss' and he/she/they demanded $100 USD/EUR (sent by paypal to ) to return them to me.
I have no idea how this has happened. I am not aware of having been exposed to malware or anything else, although i did recently purchase some new apps - perhaps one of these has something to do with it? I don't know. I am not sure what avenue has been used to reach my devices - I'm about to use my husband's laptop to check through some of my accounts (gmail, etc) and see if there is any clue there.''

While another  user defended the Australian hackers '' Oleg Pliss is a well known software engineer and technology scientist.  He would not go about asking for money to unlock iDevices.''

Some managed to restore their devices but received a second message that they have been hacked. Now the same user who defended the hackers also offered some help on how to block hackers access to their devices, ''Through iCloud they would be able to lock your devices with a passcode and send a message like the one you have received.  Using your computer go to iCloud.com and log in with your Apple ID and password and see if you can see your devices and their status.
